Chicago Invitational Champion, Team Colts
Congratulations to Team Colts (Van Ratsavongsy, Eric Ong, Tan Tran, Paul Pham, Ava Nguyen, Katelyn Le, and Cuong Nguyen) for winning the inaugural Chicago VGA Invitational.
The four-team stroke play tournament was held at the beautiful Cantigny Golf Club, providing a challenging course for all participants. The format of the tournament was total team stroke play, and each team had seven players. The team score for each day comprised the top six scores from the seven players. The tournament lasted for two days, and each day was filled with excitement and drama. The players faced various challenges, including bunkers, water hazards, and tricky greens. However, they persevered and showed their skills on the course.
Day 1: Team Colts got off to a hot start with four players shooting in the low to mid-80s and two players at 90 shots, finishing Saturday with a team score of 514 and holding a 14-shot lead over Team Bears with a score of 528. Team Bulls finished Day 1 at 532, followed by Team Falcons at 544.
Day 2: Team Falcons, after an inspirational speech by team captain Henry, stormed back on Sunday (except Tommy 😂) led by Pat Nguyen with a score of 77 and recorded Sunday’s best team score of 520, followed by Team Bulls at 537, Team Bears at 539, and Team Colts at 545.
Team Colts almost blew it on Sunday but manage to stay on top and won the inaugural Chicago VGA Invitational championship by five shots over Team Falcons. Coming in third was Team Bears and fourth was Team Bulls. Better luck next year to Team Falcons, Bears an Bulls.
We hope to see everyone back next year in the 2024 Chicago VGA Invitational.
